At QUBA Solutions, community engagement is at the heart of our company culture, and we proudly offer each employee a paid volunteering day, every year, to give back. This year, four of our Southampton office team members chose to spend their day supporting Julia’s House, a remarkable charity, during the MSP Volleyball Championships on Bournemouth Beach.
‘Julia’s House is your local children’s hospice, looking after the most seriously ill children in Wiltshire and Dorset. These children need 24 hour care for their complex and often rare medical conditions, which puts a huge amount of pressure on their families. Their conditions are often incurable and many are sadly not expected to live beyond early adulthood.
Our dedicated team of nurses, carers, therapists, family support workers and hospice doctors provide a lifeline of care. We offer clinical, emotional and practical support and essential respite breaks to give exhausted families time out from round-the-clock care, helping to prevent them from reaching breaking point.
Each family we support can tailor the care they receive in whichever way suits them best. Crucially, Julia’s House supports the whole family and not just the seriously ill child – we’re there for parents, siblings and grandparents.’

Our team of four volunteers was tasked with managing the cloakroom and bag check, as well as manning the Julia’s House gazebo.
At the gazebo, our volunteers were busy throughout the day, giving directions, taking donations, and selling merchandise. The colourful display of Julia’s House items—everything from t-shirts to tote bags—attracted a lot of attention. Many attendees stopped by to learn more about the charity, and it was heartwarming to see how many people were eager to support such a worthy cause.
This year, the volleyball championships were a little on the damp side, with solid rain from start to finish! But that certainly didn’t dampen the atmosphere, with 32 teams competing for the win! A win, which eventually went to MSP by a single point – a well deserved and fought for victory!
Abbie, Credit Control Manager
For our volunteers, the day was both fulfilling and fun. Engaging with the community, sharing information about the charity, and contributing to the event’s success left a lasting impression on everyone involved. It was a reminder of how important it is to give back, and how even small acts of service can have a big impact.
The day concluded with the announcement that the volleyball championships had raised an impressive £10,000 for Julia’s House, and a further £10, 000 for Lewis Manning. Knowing that our efforts helped contribute to this fantastic outcome was incredibly rewarding.
