However, in running our company, we also remain deeply committed to corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is reflected in our comprehensive CSR initiatives. These initiatives are centered around three core values:
At QUBA Solutions, we firmly believe in giving back to the community and the wider world. Our current charitable initiatives include supporting Julia’s House Children’s Hospices, which provides care for children with life-limiting conditions. We run regular fundraising events including hikes, runs and charity bake offs!
We also regularly work with Surfers Against Sewage, a national charity dedicated to protecting the UK’s marine environment through beach cleans and educational projects. The QUBA team regularly takes part in beach cleans along the South Coast to help this amazing initiative.
Throughout the year, we organise charity initiatives to further support local charities and the wider community. This Summer, we’ve launched the QUBA to Cuba fundraising event that spans the whole of July – raising funds for Mind.
QUBA staff will be walking, running, swimming and cycling (and more!) 4539 miles from 1st to 31st of July. Why such a specific distance? Well, that’s the number of miles from Quba (HQ) to Cuba (the country)!
Logging our activities on Strava, everyone can contribute – and QUBA will match the funds raised by the team!
You can donate to our team’s efforts on our Just Giving page.
In the day to day running of QUBA solutions, we make every effort to minimise our environmental impact through simple every day changes.
From office initiatives to staff incentives, we ensure that everyone who works for and with QUBA has the opportunity to make a positive difference.
Some of our environmental initiatives include:
Who Gives A Crap – starting with the bathrooms, we use Who Gives A Crap toilet paper. Who Gives A Crap is an Australian-based company founded in 2012 by Simon Griffiths, Jehan Ratnatunga and Danny Alexander. The company specialises in producing eco-friendly toilet paper made from recycled materials or bamboo. They are notable for their commitment to sustainability and social impact, donating 50% of their profits to build toilets and improve sanitation in developing countries.
Lights Off – it’s a basic one, but it’s so important for minimising electricity wastage. We make sure that all our lights are off when not in use, both at the end of the day and throughout.
Recycling – at QUBA Solutions we recycle wherever possible. Not only do we recycle the standard hard plastics, cans and paper, we also have dedicated soft plastics bins that are then delivered to supermarkets for wider recycling. We also recycle glass, and some of our offices have a food waste bin – an initiative we intend to expand across all sites soon.
Local Milk Delivery – we’re taking a step back to basics with our milk delivery. Our Southampton office milk is delivered in traditional glass bottles, which are then taken reclaimed, washed and refilled, eliminating plastic waste. And with offices of over 50 employees – that’s a lot of plastic waste prevented over the course of a year. 10 Green Bottles, writing for Wiltshire Wildlife, guesstimates that:
‘The average household consumes 21 pints of milk per month. One single use plastic pint bottle weighs around 10 grams. That’s just over 2,500 grams (2.5 bags of sugar) of single use plastic each year PER HOUSEHOLD just in milk bottles!’
And that’s just a household. With several offices and a high demand for coffee and tea breaks, we’re preventing some serious unnecessary plastic usage.
T Shirts – it’s the little things that add up to make the biggest difference. As such, we’ve made sure that our branded t-shirts are organically produced and made from recycled materials.
Bike To Work Scheme – QUBA Solutions are proud advocates of the Cycle to Work scheme, contributing to employee’s bikes and their running costs. Not only does this cut down on Co2 emissions caused by cars, it also encourages a healthy lifestyle.
Company Voice – it’s important to hear feedback from our staff on a regular basis. That’s why we created the Company Voice: a collection of staff from various departments who form a committee that can provide feedback to senior management. The Company Voice often recommends charity initiatives, as well as tangible changes that management can make to improve both staff wellbeing, and the positive impact on the surrounding society.
Volunteer Day – enabling and empowering our staff to give back is incredibly important to our ethos of promoting wider wellbeing throughout society. Every year, every member of staff can take a volunteer day – fully paid – allowing them to spend a day volunteering for their charity of choice.
Digital Vs Print – we strive to conduct all our operations digitally wherever possible, significantly reducing our paper consumption. Embracing digital solutions not only minimises waste but also streamlines our processes. On the rare occasions when printing is necessary, we ensure sustainability by using Woodland Trust paper, which is eco-friendly and supports forest conservation efforts.
QUBA Solutions demonstrates our commitment to giving back through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, focusing on sustainable business practices, community support and ethical operations. We engage in environmentally conscious activities, support local communities by partnering with charities and non-profits, and ensure fair treatment and opportunities within our supply chain, contributing to broader social and economic well-being.
